Tijekom Domovinskog rata (1991. – 1995.), gradsko naselje Turanj je bila točka na kojoj je neprijatelj zaustavljen u pokušaju da osvoji Karlovac. Danas je na tom mjestu muzej podijeljen na otvoreni i zatvoreni dio.
Zatvoreni dio
Zatvoreni dio muzeja se nalazi u zgradi za vrijeme rata nazvanoj „Hotel California“. U njoj je bilo smješteno zapovjedništvo obrane ovog dijela fronta. Od zgrade su nakon rata ostali samo zidovi, ali je za potrebe muzeja konzervirana u staklu kako bi se vidjelo izvorno stanje, a ujedno učinila pogodnom za muzej.
Podijeljena je na tri kata. U prizemlju se nalaze spomen soba karlovačkim braniteljima, suvenirnica i kafić. Na drugom katu je stalna izložba „Karlovac 1991. – 1995.“, a u potkrovlju su dvorana, knjižnica i uredi.
Otvoreni dio
Pored zgrade se nalazi otvoreni dio muzeja. U njemu posjetitelji mogu vidjeti topove, tenkove, oklopna vozila i avione korištene u stvarnim bitkama.
